Embracing OKRs: Transforming the Way We Work at Thredd

We're embracing OKRs to align our efforts and drive focus as we evolve our technology platform and expand our horizons.

At Thredd, we’re no strangers to growth and change. As we evolve our technology platform and expand our horizons, it became clear that we needed a stronger framework to align our efforts and drive focus. That’s why we adopted OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) to transform the way we work.

Why OKRs?

OKRs are more than just a management tool; they’re a methodology that helps bridge ambitious goals with actionable outcomes. With our teams working across multiple domains, we needed a system that:

  • Creates clear alignment between company-wide goals and team-level efforts.
  • Focuses on measurable results rather than just activities.
  • Drives accountability and focus, ensuring we prioritize what matters most.

How We Implemented OKRs

  1. 1
    Defining Organizational Objectives

Each quarter, we set a small number of key objectives that represent our most pressing priorities — be it platform scalability, enhancing customer satisfaction, or expanding into new markets.

  2. 2
    Empowering Teams to Contribute

Teams craft their own key results that directly support these objectives. This bottom-up approach ensures alignment while fostering ownership and engagement at all levels.

  3. 3
    Frequent Check-Ins

Regular weekly and monthly reviews keep OKRs at the forefront.

These sessions help us track progress, resolve roadblocks, and celebrate milestones.

  4. 4
    Continuous Learning

At the end of each quarter, we evaluate our successes and shortcomings.

This retrospective process helps us improve and adapt our approach for the future.

Early Wins

  • Improved Focus: Teams now have a clearer sense of direction and understand the impact of their work.
  • Stronger Collaboration: With shared goals, cross-functional teams are working together more effectively.
  • Greater Motivation: Measuring progress against key results has brought a renewed sense of purpose and transparency.

Lessons Along the Way

The shift to OKRs wasn’t without its hurdles. We learned to:

  • Prioritize ruthlessly: Limiting objectives ensures we target what matters most.
  • Define outcomes clearly: Specific, measurable key results are essential to tracking real progress.
  • Iterate continuously: OKRs are a framework for growth, not a rigid process

Looking Ahead

We’ve only just begun to see the benefits of OKRs, but the transformation in our ways of working is already evident. By fostering alignment, focus, and accountability, OKRs are helping us navigate complexity and achieve meaningful progress.

For those exploring OKRs, my advice is to start simple and build iteratively. The journey may have its challenges, but the outcomes are worth it.

Together, you can achieve more when everyone is laser focused on the outcomes!
